June Office Hours: Bully on the Board

This month, Tim and David will talk about how professional managers can deal with a bully on the board. We will discuss the psychological stress of trying to uphold professional management standards with someone who may not share those high standards and who may stop at nothing to get his or her way. We'll talk about the psychology of this dispute, the competing interests that come with such a situation, and how to determine a professional and honorable course towards a resolution that is in the best interests of the community. Attendees will leave the conversation with a better understanding of the following:

  1. How to quickly recognize such a situation;

  2. How to assess the danger in such a situation;

  3. How to identify and address the psychological stress that comes with such a personality;

  4. How to quickly identify best practices for protecting the best interests of the community;

  5. How to acknowledge the stress of losing the client and when that might be the best solution;

  6. Scenarios for resolving the situation or, if it cannot be resolved, how to best manage it so that professional standards are upheld in the community's interests are advanced.
